New MAC Museum now open in Somerville, Victoria

23 January 2025

VICTORIA’S MORNINGTON PENINSULA, famous for wine growing, is now home to another exciting vintage collection – of Apple and Macintosh computers, software and peripherals.

MAC Museum in Somerville, about 50 minutes by freeway from the Melbourne CBD, is now open.

At MAC Museum you can take an interactive tour of discovery – or re-discovery –through over 40 years of Apple computers and history.

From Apple II series, Apple III, and early Macintosh, through Quadras, LCs, and Power Macintosh and, marking the era of Steve Jobs’ return, the colourful iMacs – they’re at MAC Museum.

Newtons and even a rare Macintosh TV never released in Australia are on display. You’ll also find a pristine example of the unique Power Mac G4 Cube, a compact version of the Power Mac G4 tower.

There’s a wall of software, including many games that have delighted millions – including Lemmings, Monkey Island and Flight Simulator. If you find a game you want to play, give it a go – MAC Museum is an interactive experience.

Many of the exhibits are fully functional and you are welcome to sit down and use them.

There are a number of Apple museums around the world, but nothing like this in Australia. MAC Museum is the culmination of a long collecting career by Matthew Styles, the museum’s founder and curator.

Matthew Styles (left), 39, has been using Apple computers since he was five years old. He spent six years working at a leading Melbourne Apple Reseller in the early noughties, earning his Apple Service Technician accreditations – possibly the youngest person in Australia at the time to do so.

While not in the industry today, Matthew’s passion for the brand has continued unabated.

As Retro Rarez, the YouTube channel dedicated to vintage computers, said, “You won’t believe what’s inside Australia’s MAC Museum!”
